It says in there that a certain loss of lung volume and decrease of pulmonary diffusion capacity for CO result from sympathectomy.

What does this mean?! How can lung volume change after a surgery to cure sweatin? ?

It's because the same nerves which deliver the message for your sweat glands to sweat are all bundled together with nerves leading to the heart, lungs, blood vessels, thyroid, fat tissue, bone, bone marrow, arrector pili muscles . . . . . .and more
